Decoy Wallets

How many credit card offers do you get in the mail? Well if you are like me you get a lot, especially if you own several domain names. Seems like all that personal info you attach to your domain name is fair game for credit card companies. But I thought they at least did a search to see if the name they send a credit card offer to is a real person.

Mr Drive Faster Here’s one card I got recently addressed to Drive Faster. I have no idea where they got this name from but apparently somewhere deep in my past I am associated with Driving Fast?

Credit Cards Here is a pile of credit card sample cards.

I know you can stop most of the “pre-approved” credit card offers here but I kind of like getting the cards because I thought I might be able to make use all the plastic for something.

Whenever I travel I always worry about either losing my wallet or having it stolen by a pickpocket or worse a mugger. I’ve seen advice where they recommend that you photo copy everything in your wallet in case of loss, which is a good idea. Butl I have something that may work even better.

That’s right a decoy wallet. Use an old wallet and put several sample credit cards along with some real cash. Don’t use any sample cards that actually have your name on them and do use real cash. Put that in your pocket/purse and you then have something you can offer up to a thief. Of course you will need to carry the real goods somewhere and I like these products:

Eagle Creek Hidden Pocket – Simply place your passport and money inside, thread your belt through the attached loop, and then flip the pocket into your pants or skirt. Holds both USA and most international passports. Zippered pocket contains separators.

The Undercover Passport Money Case will keep you from ever asking the most dreaded question, Where’s my passport? The Undercover Passport Money case uses Softseam Construction for maximum comfort and a DuPont CoolMax backing that is soft to the touch and wicks away moisture. With an adjustable elasticized waist belt and ultra-thin quick release buckle, you’ll barely even notice you’re wearing the Eagle Creek Undercover Passport Money Case, and instead will take comfort in knowing your most important possessions are skin tight.

They are inexpensive and I like their simplicity. This can work for both men and women. It may seem like a lot of trouble to go through but until you’ve lost your wallet once you have no idea how much trouble you have to go through to replace everything.

One caveat, you may have some explaining to do when you go through security at the airport.

Hey I’m not paranoid, but I do like to be prepared…
